Sifa Biosciences was founded in 2020 with the idea of harnessing Science, Technology and Innovation for Discovery and Development of Medicines for Global Health. The WHO constitution states that: “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. In line with the WHO definition of Health, Sifa Biosciences aims to take action in support of Mission Relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- To discover and develop medicines for diseases of major global health importance relevant to Africa and the World.
- To train and build capacity for high-impact scientific research focused on drug discovery and development conducted by scientists working in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
- To partner and collaborate with scientists involved in drug discovery and development for major global health diseases
Partnerships and Collaboration are fundamental building blocks for successful drug discovery and development. The science at Sifa Biosciences involves partnerships and collaborations with academic institutions, non-profits, governments, and international health organizations. Therefore, the scientific approach at Sifa Biosciences is organized around collaborative research activities with scientific partners proficient in diseases of global health importance affecting LMICs and funding partners that help to catalyze investment in Research and Development for these diseases.
Sifa Biosciences is also committed to partnering and collaborating with scientists and clinicians to help build and strengthen capacity for high-impact scientific discovery and development of medicines in the global health setting. Sifa Biosciences will provide training, internships, and mentoring opportunities for students and research professionals that live and work in LMICs or have a strong interest in addressing the health challenges in LMICs.
